"Ambiance"

In French, "ambiance" means atmosphere, mood, or environment. It refers to the overall feeling, character, or mood of a place, situation, or setting, and how it makes a person feel. However, for me "ambiance" is a floating rave-party disturbing my peace on summer nights. I'm talking about the vessel M/S Ambiance. The shipping company market their service as "Party under the stars at your own event at sea in the Stockholm archipelago." Well, the "archipelago" seeling point is not entirely true. The vessel is slowly moving up and down the inlet to the city. It cost about $700 per hour (minimum 3-4 hours). With these prices people tend to be better dressed compared with a muddy rave party. Ambient music is a genre of music that emphasizes tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. There's nothing ambient over M/S Ambiance. They rely heavily on bpm, beats per minute. In short, music for braindead people. You can relax inside the saloon on the vessel, but all people gather on the upper deck where they yell and dance (in no particular order or at the same time). I'm thinking about the harm principle; the idea that personal freedom and the pursuit of joy are boundless, provided they do not cause harm to others. As an old gunner in the Swedish artillery (mandatory military service) I'm having dark thoughts of how to put an end to this nonsense. I have always aimed at mediocrity, but back in school I got top marks in the subject psychology. What has that got to do with anything? Psychological projection is an unconscious defense mechanism where an individual attributes their own unacceptable thoughts, feelings, or impulses onto someone else. Maybe I'm old and jealous. It may very well be that I subconsciously want to yell and dance, ununhibited, dressed in white chinos and a white business shirt with three buttons undone.
